This course is intended for those who use the English language either in their work or in other professional activities. It will deal, for example, with the way the English language is conventionally used in managerial, administrative, contractual, technical and promotional business situations. In particular it focuses on the formal and cultural conventions found in both spoken and written English. Attention will be paid to the changes that have taken place in the English language as a result of globalization, international trade and the development of new media. The specific needs of course participants will be taken into account and there will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and presentations. Materials will be provided and there will be regular homework assignments.
